Shanghai Caohejing Hi-Tech Park (CHJ) was approved as a state-level economic and technological development zone in 1988 as well as a national hi-tech industrial development zone in year 1991. In year 2000 , it was honored as one of the APEC Science and Technology Industrial Parks in China . CHJ is the first state-level Hi-Tech Park in China that was respectively honored ISO 9001 Quality Management System in 2000 and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System in 2002.
　　After more than ten years' development, industry clusters have been formed in CHJ, such as microelectronics, optical electronics, computer & software, new material, bio-pharmaceuticals and aeronautics. CHJ has gradually played the role as 4 functional centers, that is, R&D center, innovation center, network center and financial data center.
　　Currently CHJ tops the list of all development zones in China in terms of economic returns per unit area.
Owing to its successful development, CHJ gained the further approval from the State Council in 2004 to establish Shanghai Caohejing Pujiang Hi-Tech Park (hereinafter referred to as CHJ-PJ) as its expansion. CHJ-PJ is composed of three parts, namely, Export Processing Zone, hi-tech industrial area and business supporting area, totaling to 10.7sq.km. The first phase of Caohejing Export & Processing Zone about 0.9 sq. km was put into operation in Mar. 2004
　　CHJ-PJ focuses on hi-tech industry development such as electronics, computer & software, aeronautics & astronautics, new energy, new material and modern media etc. and will introduce the relevant supporting industries to facilitate the hi-tech development.
　　As a state-level economic and technological development zone, CHJ-PJ has also been listed by Shanghai Municipal Government as one of the five key industrial parks in Shanghai.
　　Learning from the Silicon Valley and Arlington Business Park, CHJ-PJ will adhere to high standard park design and environment-friendly construction. With full supporting functions, CHJ-PJ will definitely become a competitive wonderland of hi-tech R&D, technology service and hi-tech manufacture.
