Owing to its successful development, CHJ gained the further approval from the State Council in 2004 to establish Shanghai Caohejing CHJ Pujiang Hi-Tech Park (hereinafter referred to as CHJ Pujiang Hi-Tech Park) as its expansion with a projected area of 8.3 sq. km, of which 7 sq km is planned as the hi-tech industrial zone and the other 1.3 sq km as the mixed-use plot.
 
      Shanghai Caohejing Hi-Tech Park (CHJ) was approved as a state-level economic and technological development zone in 1988 as well as a national hi-tech industrial development zone in year 1991. In year 2000 , it was honored as one of the APEC Science and Technology Industrial Parks in China .
